From a post on
of John "X" De Matteo I got to meet a comprehensive list to read e-books. You can read it here but for convenience we carry in the post:
Digital Fictions / How to read an ebook without a e-reader?
Let's face it: we are lazy and fearful. Afraid to abandon old habits and care to try new things, afraid of being disappointed by so-called news, too fearful to spend a lot of money unnecessarily. So nothing to do, for now we remain faithful to the books of paper and then time will tell ... But if there was a way to read an ebook without spending anything, without buying a dedicated player, doing great on our computer or on our smartphones?
This way there - in fact, these modes. Are programs, free software to download and install in a snap two moments. Besides, who uses a computer reads an ebook every time he opens a pdf file or a txt or doc - ok, maybe the sales charts or the user of the dishwasher are not * exactly * an ebook, but the format is the itself. How to read these files - if they contain, for example, a novel - by making the on-screen reading looks a bit 'to that of a paper book, is what we explain in today's Digital Fictions. We said, just download the programs, vediamoli:
1) Room
A small program designed for iPhone, iPad iPod and anhée but that there is in "Desktop" for Mac and PC (though with reduced functionality) for Windows . It works a bit 'like iTunes that allows you to catalog your ebooks, browse the covers, and change the layout when you read (enlarge the fonts, spacing etc.).. Reads virtually all formats, except that of the "Kindle books, Amazon's ebooks formats mobi. For these there ...
2)
Kindle Edition software is free for seven of seven different platforms, which allow you to read ebooks from Amazon almost anywhere on your PC, Mac, iPhone or the Android, and even on BalckBerry! Do not have a Kindle? Not a problem.
3) EPUBReader
And if you are just lazy, or really spent the whole day in front of the monitor, EPUBReader is right for you: a simple extension for Mozilla Firefox, which reads the epub format (most common) directly into the browser, there's a very kind gentleman who made a video to explain how get!
4) Adobe Digital Editions
A program in the round, well structured, you download free and in turn serves to download and open ebooks purchased on the net (especially those burdened by heavy DRM ...) to catalog them and to read on the screen. Beautiful and useful, like all things that Adobe does, even if it is a bit 'sad to think that it is associated with a type of digital book market, full of restrictions.
Finally, there even the most popular program for those who read ebooks: Calibre, to be honest that is mainly to carry out conversion between different formats and management of the library, but which has within it a kind of viewer that allows you to browse - now I do - all the popular formats.
You have no more excuses. And not to "convert" the digital and "renounce" the book of paper: this is a false problem, because the two types of reading are not mutually exclusive but complement each other. You have no excuse anymore to read an ebook - on your computer, on your phone - make a picture and send it to our contest!
